00:00:08:01 - 00:00:42:06 Dr. Renée Branch Canady Hello. Welcome to our 2022 annual report. In 2015, we did our first digitized annual report, and now, seven years later, who would have imagined how virtual our lives would be? But we've adapted, we've adjusted, and we've continued to press toward outstanding public health outcomes for this region, for our state, and hopefully even Michigan, influencing our nation and our world. 00:00:43:02 - 00:01:15:23 Dr. Renée Branch Canady As I think about public health practice right now, we've gotten a lot more attention thanks to COVID. People are understanding or perhaps misunderstanding what we actually do, but it is an amazingly exciting time to be a public health professional. It is also a deeply challenging time to be a public health professional. The social unrest, the violence occurring in our society all damage and undermine the health of our public. 00:01:16:08 - 00:01:57:23 Dr. Renée Branch Canady And so, our purpose, the demand for our presence becomes all the more critical. Even now, at this moment, I can't help but think about the worldwide impacts of public health. You'll see in this report a picture of me sitting with some wonderful, enthusiastic students. We happened to be seated at the University of Gaziantep in Turkey. I can't help but pause and reflect upon our connectedness as a world community as we think about the recent and catastrophic earthquake that affected Turkey and Syria. 00:01:58:12 - 00:02:26:05 Dr. Renée Branch Canady We are one humankind. And public health touches us all. And so, I invite you to reflect on the impact not just of the programs and the projects and the people that those touched, but the ripple effects. That is public health. We continue, as our profession has always done, to pursue equity and justice as the direct strategy to health and well-being. 00:02:26:14 - 00:02:33:11 Dr. Renée Branch Canady We hope you'll continue to join us and that you'll be encouraged by the things you see in this report. Thank you so much.
